Classic Tracks: Tribu de Ixchel

By DAN WORKMAN

Tonight, I just happened to be checking out a new set of UE earbud-style headphones, and I wanted to see how well they reproduced low end. I dialed up some songs from the band, Tribu de Ixchel, and was instantly flung back in time to when Robbie Parrish and I were working with the band. (The earbuds must be awesome). Not only did the music sound good, I was reminded just how amazing the band was, and was delighted to hear how fresh the CD still sounded today.

Tribu's rock roots: Houstonians turn to what they love

By RAMIRO BURR

HOUSTON rock outfit Tribu de Ixchel's new 10-track CD, Crema Latina, has as many flavors as a pack of Life Savers. It reflects the rock and pop sounds that fired the group members' teen-age imaginations.

"We listened to all sorts of different bands, from the Beatles and Rush to Iron Maiden and Santana," says lead singer Jerry Villanueva. "But we also listened to a lot of traditional music like Pedro Infante and Trio Los Panchos.

"Between us, we're into a big range of flavors."

2001 Tour Memories

I found this on an old, old website of ours and thought it would be interesting to post. Too bad I couldn't open the archive. Anyone remember these dates? Check out the old school site at: http://tribudeixchel.tripod.com/index.html

Tribu and Spanish Rocks

By BOB RUGGIERO

Until recently, a mention of Spanish-influenced rock and roll would cause most people to think only of Los Lobos, Santana ("Oye Como Va" anyone?) or War's "Low Rider." Folks whose knowledge of rock history extended more than a few years into the past might also throw Ritchie Valens into the mix, the more pop-minded might point to Jose Feliciano, and the country-rockers might even try to make a case for Freddy Fender.
